Our western adventure begins as we leave Little Rock and head north toward Kansas! We'll kick things off with a delicious BBQ dinner, giving everyone a chance to relax, enjoy great food and get acquainted with fellow travelers. Then we'll settle into our hotel as we prepare for the adventures ahead. We'll continue west toward Colorado, watching the landscape transform from the rolling plains of Kansas to the magnificent Rocky Mountains. As we approach Denver, the mountains rise dramatically on the horizon, offering our first glimpse of the spectacular scenery that awaits. We'll continue north into Wyoming and make our way to Sheridan, a charming western town nestled beneath the beautiful Bighorn Mountains. Rich in Old West history, Sheridan features a downtown filled with western character, historic buildings and small-town charm. Step back in time with a visit to the beautiful Trail End Historic Mansion. Our guided tour offers a fascinating glimpse into the lives of one of Wyoming's prominent early families and the elegant lifestyle of the early 20th century. We'll then explore downtown Sheridan, where you can browse the shops, wander the historic streets and soak up the authentic western atmosphere. It's a relaxing change of pace before our journey continues deeper into the West.
Next, we'll head north toward one of the most fascinating sites in American Western historyLittle Bighorn Battlefield. At the Visitor Center, we'll learn more about the people and events surrounding the Battle of the Little Bighorn and experience the landscape where this pivotal chapter in American history unfolded. By early evening, we'll arrive in Helena, Montana's beautiful state capital, surrounded by mountains and filled with history. The next day brings one of Montana's most scenic experiencesa cruise through the spectacular Gates of the Mountains along the Missouri River. Towering limestone cliffs rise dramatically from the water as we travel through a wilderness landscape filled with natural beauty. Keep your eyes open for bighorn sheep, mountain goats, bald eagles, osprey and other wildlife that inhabit this rugged region. The area is also steeped in American history. Lewis and Clark traveled through this region during their famous expedition, and the towering canyon walls inspired the name "Gates of the Mountains." Sit back and take in the spectacular scenery as the boat carries us through one of Montana's most remarkable natural treasures. We'll continue north through beautiful Big Sky Country toward Kalispell, our gateway to Glacier National Park. Dinner is included with our hotel stay as we prepare for two spectacular days in Glacier Country.
Now comes one of the true highlights of our entire journeyGlacier National Park! Known as the "Crown of the Continent," Glacier is a breathtaking wilderness of rugged mountain peaks, sparkling lakes, cascading waterfalls, deep valleys and forests carved by ancient glaciers. We'll experience this magnificent park aboard the famous Red Bus Tour, one of the most iconic ways to explore Glacier. Sit back and enjoy the scenery while our experienced driver and guide share fascinating stories about the park's history, geology and wildlife. We'll travel through spectacular mountain country and along portions of the legendary Going-to-the-Sun Road, one of America's most celebrated scenic drives. Towering peaks, alpine meadows, dramatic valleys and seemingly endless mountain vistas unfold around every curve. Keep your cameras ready! Glacier is home to mountain goats, bighorn sheep, elk, deer, bears and countless other species of wildlife. This is a day to simply take in the scenery and experience one of the most spectacular mountain landscapes in North America. Glacier is one of those rare places where the photographs can never quite capture the grandeur of the real thingyou truly have to see it for yourself.
We'll say goodbye to Glacier Country and continue south through the beautiful Montana countryside. We'll enjoy Grant-Kohrs Ranch National Historic Site in Deer Lodge. Step into the days of the American cattle frontier as we explore this historic ranch and learn about the cowboys, ranchers and traditions that helped shape the American West.
We'll then continue toward West Yellowstone, our home for the next two nights. The excitement builds as we get closer to one of America's greatest national treasuresYellowstone National Park! We'll explore Yellowstone's Upper Loop, taking in spectacular scenery while learning about the park's fascinating history, wildlife and geology. Yellowstone is unlike anywhere else on earth. Beneath its beautiful landscape lies an active volcanic system responsible for the park's famous geysers, hot springs, bubbling mud pots and colorful geothermal features. But Yellowstone is much more than its geothermal wonders. It is also an enormous wildlife sanctuary. Keep your eyes open for bison, elk, pronghorn, bears, wolves and other wildlife as we travel through peaceful meadows, rushing rivers, forests and wide-open valleys surrounded by mountains.
And the best part? You never know what you'll discover around the next bend! Our Yellowstone adventure continues with the Lower Loop, home to some of the park's most famous sights. We'll make our way to Old Faithful, Yellowstone's legendary geyser, where you'll have time to explore the area, witness its spectacular eruption and enjoy lunch on your own. Along the way, we'll encounter more of Yellowstone's incredible geothermal landscape, including steaming basins, colorful hot springs and fascinating natural formations.
Then, we leave Yellowstone and enter Grand Teton National Park, where the scenery becomes even more dramatic. The magnificent Teton Range rises sharply from the valley floor, creating one of the most iconic mountain landscapes in America. We'll enjoy breathtaking views of these towering peaks before continuing to Rock Springs, Wyoming, after another incredible day surrounded by some of the West's most spectacular scenery. We'll continue into Colorado, where we'll check into our hotel for the next two nights before heading into the spectacular Rocky Mountain National Park and the beautiful mountain town of Estes Park. Get ready for a mountain adventure unlike any other!
We'll experience the WildSide Ride, climbing high into the Rocky Mountains aboard a rugged open-air mountain vehicle. This exciting adventure takes us deep into the mountains for spectacular views, alpine scenery and a unique perspective of the Rockies. As we climb higher, the scenery becomes increasingly dramatic, with sweeping vistas of surrounding peaks and valleys. We'll also have time to enjoy Estes Park, browse the shops, explore the area and take in the charming atmosphere of this beloved mountain town. Today combines everything we love about the Westmountains, adventure, breathtaking scenery and plenty of fun!
We'll begin our journey back toward Arkansas, traveling east through Colorado and Kansas as the scenery gradually changes from towering mountain peaks to the wide-open plains. Along the way, we'll have plenty of time to reminisce about the incredible places we've visited and the experiences we've shared. From the rugged mountains of Glacier National Park and the legendary Going-to-the-Sun Road, to the geothermal wonders of Yellowstone, the towering peaks of Grand Teton National Park, the historic Gates of the Mountains and our unforgettable WildSide Rocky Mountain adventure, this journey has showcased some of the most spectacular landscapes and fascinating history in the American West. We'll arrive home with full cameras, wonderful memories and plenty of stories to share for years to come!
